Kulani Correctional Facility Wastewater System, Island of Hawai‘i

The upgrade to the wastewater system at Hawai‘i’s largest minimum security prison was required by the EPA as part of their directive to close all large-capacity cesspools. Nestled in a native forest at 7,000 feet in elevation and possessing many endangered plant and animal species, the site challenged our team’s goal to site all facilities on already disturbed old pasture land. Geometrician wrote the EA for the project and worked with government and private biologists to ensure that the project did minimal harm to the environment.
