Mohouli Street Extension, Island of Hawai‘i

This $10 million dollar federal match-funds project extended Mohouli Street in Hilo 1.26 miles between Komohana Street and Kaumana Drive in Hilo. The extension now provides the most efficient link between the growing Kaumana area and Komohana Street, which connects to the University and major shopping areas of Hilo, leading to better safety, less traffic congestion and savings in fuel and time. Geometrician directed and wrote the joint State-federal EA for the project. Issues included wetlands, neighborhood impacts, and the crossing of the widest floodway in Hilo.
